Magdalen Irene Whalen, 76, a resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, April 29, 2004. She is survived by her son, Timothy H. Whalen of Albuquerque; daughter, Madalyn Sheldon and husband, Albert of Silver Spring, MD; son, Richard E. Whalen III and wife, Jennifer of Silver Spring, MD; and grandchildren, Kevin and Ryan Whalen, both of Albuquerque, Katherine Sheldon and Devin Whalen, both of Silver Spring, MD. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Richard E. Whalen on May 30, 2002 and sister, Catherine Cotter. Mrs. Whalen was born in Prairie du Rocher, IL. She graduated from Redbud High School in Redbud, IL and earned her BA Degree at Bradley University in Peoria, IL. She was a 30-year elementary school teacher. Mrs. Whalen was particularly noted for her strong faith and never-ending loyalty to her husband and family. She was a member of the Shrine of St. Bernadette. Rosary will be recited Monday, May 3, 2004, 5:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. A reception will follow the rosary. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, May 4, 2004, 9:00 a.m., at The Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Rd. NE. Interment will follow at 11:30 a.m., Santa Fe National Cemetery. Friends may visit at the Rosary. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Presbyterian Kaseman Inpatient Hospice Unit, P.O. Box 26666, 87125-6666.
