Jose Chavez peacefully joined our Lord and Savior at his home in Las Nutrias, NM on April 5, 2004. He was born in Jarales, New Mexico on May 27, 1903 to Estanislada Cordova and Rafael Chavez. The family later moved to Las Nutrias, New Mexico. Jose married Lita Tafoya of Belen. He was a rancher for many years, later he and his wife moved to Albuquerque where he was employed at the Albuquerque International Airport until his retirement in 1970. His nephew, Manuel Chavez was caring for him at the time of his death. Jose was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lita in January of 1989; his parents; and his brother, Ernesto Chavez in 2001. He is survived by four nieces, Tommy and her husband, Joseph Wakeen of Albuquerque, Sofie and Helen Chavez of Espanola, NM, and Tanny and her husband, Andy Jaramillo of Barstow, Ca; three nephews, Manuel Chavez, Ruben Chavez and his wife, Angie of Las Nutrias, and Delfino Chavez of Albuquerque, NM; and many grandnieces and grandnephews. All services will be held at Las Nutrias Catholic Church. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 6, at 6:30 p.m. followed by a rosary at 7:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Las Nutrias Catholic Cemetery.
