Obituary for SHIPE

Rolland W. Shipe, born on April 24, 1921 in Guernsey County, Ohio, passed away on March 23, 2004. Mr. Shipe was a resident of New Mexico since 1950 and had lived in Albuquerque since 1987. He is survived by his brothers and sisters, George Shipe and wife, Irene, Dorothy Hart and husband, John, Thomas Shipe, Patricia Sanders and several nieces and nephews of Ohio. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Robyn Morrow of Portland, OR, Robert Morrow and wife, Lisa of Colorado Springs, CO, Janice Pettine and husband, Henry of Albuquerque, NM, and Gayle Criswell and husband, John of Albuquerque and by five grandchildren, Carlo and Dominic Pettine, Lindsey Wise, and Liz and Alex Morrow. Mr. Shipe married Lucille Morrow in 1987 and was previously married to Francis Shipe, both of whom preceded him in death. Mr. Shipe served in the U.S. Army in 1944 and 1945, had a distinguished 30 year career in education, and retired in 1980 from New Mexico State University as the Director of Admissions. He traveled extensively throughout the state during his career, then throughout the United States during his early retirement. His travels, his love for reading, and his good memory made him a great resource. Rolland "Red" Shipe will be remembered for his good natured humor, gentleness, appreciative spirit, and willingness to help others. Those who knew Red in his later years will not be able to picture him without a book or a news magazine in his hands. Memorial Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 26, 2004 at Chapel of Sunrise, 7601 Wyoming Blvd. NE with Pastor Rick Donaho of New Covenant Church officiating.
