Obituary for GARN

Wray B. Garn, 88, passed away on March 23, 2004. Wray was born in Yakima, Washington, on January 4, 1916. He was preceded in death by his parents Florence Beardsley Garn and Edmond Garn, and by his beloved wife of 59 years, Marjorie Lucile Antoine Garn. Wray graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and went to work there for Westinghouse Corporation as an electrical engineer. He then moved west to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he went to work for the University of New Mexico. On December 11, 1943, he married the love of his life, Marjorie Lucile Antoine in the Monte Vista Christian Church. Marjorie and Wray moved immediately to Los Alamos where Wray was employed as a scientist on the Manhattan Project, that later became the Los Alamos National Laboratory. He worked there on numerous projects until his retirement. Marjorie and Wary were pioneers during the early days of the Lab. Marjorie was originally employed at the Los Alamos KRSN radio station, and then also worked at the Lab until her retirement. They then moved to White Rock, New Mexico where they lived for over 14 years among many wonderful friends. Marjorie and Wray traveled extensively all around the world. Wray loved to hike and to go Jeeping around the countryside rock hounding with his wife and friends. He was an amateur photographer of nature. He and Marjorie were very active in the Los Alamos Geological Society, and the White Rock Senior Center. Marjorie was a gifted artist and exhibited her art in Los Alamos and White Rock. Wray was a life and founding member of the BPOE Los Alamos Elks Lodge # 283 and recently became an associate member of the Albuquerque Elks # 461. He was a member of IEEE and numerous other technical societies. He was also a past director of the Los Alamos National Bank. Wray is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In the last 18 months, Wray has lived in Albuquerque, where he was close by his nieces Betty Choc and husband Paul, Jane Crook and husband Gene, and his grandnephew, John Choc and wife Elizabeth. Wray will be missed by his family and friends. Cremation has already taken place and a private memorial will be held by the family.
