Obituary for HALLER

Daniel J. Haller, age 58, husband of Cindy Haller (nee)Ruhl, died on Monday, March 15, 2004 from injuries sustained in an auto accident in Albuquerque on March 12. He was born on August 9, 1945 in Seven Hills, Ohio to Daniel P. and Ursula Birk Haller. Upon graduation from high school, he entered the army, serving the majority of his three-year duty at Brooks Army Hospital and Ft. Sam Houston in the medical corps division in San Antonio, Texas. While there, he began his university education and upon discharge received a Bachelor of Science degree in math from Ohio University. He began his career as a CPA with Touche Ross in Dayton, Ohio, in the auditing and later, management services department. A client firm, Nord Resources, hired him as chief accountant for one of their overseas mining operations in Sierra Leone, Africa. Two years later, he continued with Nord at their headquarters in Albuquerque as assistant controller and later, as treasurer, also earning an M.B.A. from the University of New Mexico. Career change led him to Houston, Texas, where he began a 21-year career in executive search and outplacement services. Dan's sporting interests included tennis, windsurfing and participating in the charity MS 150 bike rides from Houston to Austin, and the "Hotter Than Hell" bike races in Wichita Falls. He was also a 20-year veteran of JSC Toastmasters in Houston, and most currently the Honeywell Sunrisers Toastmasters. In 1999, Dan joined the Southwest Airlines' family in Houston as a reservation sales agent. Dan and Cindy's affinity for New Mexico brought them back to Albuquerque later in the year, where Dan continued with the airline. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister, Terry and husband, David Simko of Chagrin Falls, Ohio. A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 18, 2004, at 10:00 a.m., at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum Chapel, 7999 Wyoming Blvd. NE. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in the name of Daniel J. Haller to the Salvation Army Disaster Relief, c/o PO Drawer 27690, Albuquerque, NM, 87125.
