Obituary for TOWNER

Clara Elise Towner, 87, a longtime resident of Veradale, Washington, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2004 from complications associated with Alzheimer's disease. Born in Pasco, WA she attended Whitworth College and married Dr. Alonzo A. Towner in 1936. The Towner's became a military family in 1939 traveling throughout the world until Elise's husband retired in 1972 as the Air Force Surgeon General. During their lifetime together Elise enjoyed playing and teaching piano music as well as entertaining many friends and dignitaries. They resided at 2515 Timberlane Dr, Veradale, WA where she was surrounded by the company and affection of her many cats. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1977; and a daughter, Connie, in 1950. She cared for her mother, also a victim of Alzheimer's, from 1980 until her death in 1990. In 1999 her son, Lt. Colonel Don Towner, moved her into his home in Albuquerque where she was cared for until her death. She is survived by two brothers, Lynn Aldrich, Prescott, AZ and Harl Aldrich, Concord MA; her daughter, Carolyn Long, also a piano teacher, of Minneapolis, MN; four grandchildren, Tika and Todd Long and Carl and Stephen Towner; and one great-granddaughter, Brianna Carter. No services are planned. Private family services will be held at a later date.
