Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday March 05, 2004

Robert G. Slattery, 53, resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away suddenly on Monday, March 1, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Marianne Dickinson; son, Brendon Slattery; parents, Richard and Marjorie Slattery; brother, Ed Slattery and wife, Mary; nieces, Emily and Hannah; nephew, Ben; and three cousins and their families. Bob was born in Washington, DC and raised in a log cabin near Rockville, MD until he and his family relocated to Davenport, IA when he was 13. He received his BA in archeology from the University of Iowa and came to NM to do field work, first with UNM and later the School of American Research. He started in the construction business in Santa Fe in 1973 and became proficient in many building styles. He tried his hand at writing and publishing in the early 80's, which is how he met Marianne, his wife and partner. They moved to Albuquerque in 1985, where Bob started Robert Slattery Construction, Inc., which has won numerous awards for custom homes and remodeling. Bob was an active member of the Home Builders of Central New Mexico, serving on the Board of Directors, as chairman of the Remodelors Council, and as a founding member and chairman of the Custom Builders Council. He was also active in efforts to institute green building and green development standards locally. He was known as an intelligent, creative and ethical professional---which, with his boyish grin and positive energy, made him a much respected and loved member of our community. Services will be held Monday, 3:30 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. A memorial and reception will follow at 6:00 p.m. at the Hibben Center on Redondo Drive and Martin Luther King Dr. on the west side of UNM campus. French Mortuary 1111 University Blvd. NE 843-6333
