Obituary for ROBERTSON

Volney Dean "Bud" Robertson Jr., born January 21, 1929 passed away February 15, 2004. Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico preceded in death by his parents, Volney Dean and Jane Robertson; and two sons Lawrence and Jeffery. Bud is survived by Betty, his wife of 54 years, and two sons David L. Robertson and Bradley J. Robertson and wife Jessica, a daughter Vicki Husbands, ten grandchildren; Wendy and Jeffrey Robertson of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Holly Topliss of Louisville, Colorado, Amber Robertson of Belen, New Mexico, Kelly and Jennifer Robertson of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, John Easley of Estancia, New Mexico, James Patrick and Jason Husbands of Bosque , New Mexico, three great-grandchildren, a sister, Dudley Morrow of Grants, New Mexico and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Robertson's two great loves were his family and aviation. He worked for Cutter Flying Service for 24 years and in 1975 opened a general aviation maintenance facility named Robertson Aircraft, Inc. at the Albuquerque International Sunport. In 1969 he was chosen the Federal Aviation Administrations General Aviation Technician of the Year for the Southwest Region. He received many awards during his 52 years of service to aviation, the most recent occurred in 2003, when he received the Charles E. Taylor Award for 50 years active service in aviation. He enjoyed all the people his met through his work in aviation and he had a great deal of pride knowing how many aircraft he kept in the air. Now he has embarked on his most important and highest flight. Bon Voyage, Bud, we love you. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the St. Nicholas Project, 1249 Highway 304, Veguita, New Mexico 87062. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2004 at Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE. Services will be held at the Palm Chapel at Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE, at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2004 with the Rev. David Morgan and John Winship officiating. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Strong-Thorne Mortuary in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers are Jeffery Robertson, Loren Kula, G.C. Johnson, John Winship, Timothy Hanosh, and Darrell Rickert. Friends are invited to the house of David L. Robertson, 6909 Roble Blanco, SW, Albuquerque, following the service.
