Obituary for MILLS

Lillian Louise Littleton Mills, 92, was born January 9, 1912 in Fort Scott, Kansas. She passed away on February 7, 2004 in Albuquerque. Lillian graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1930 and began college at the nearby teacher's college in Pittsburg, Kansas. That college is now Pittsburg State University where both of her sons were graduated. Lillian was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Kansas City for over 50 years where she served as both trustee and church secretary. Harlie and Lillian hosted and sponsored many needy young married students at Midwestern Baptist Seminary, taking them into their empty nest to provide housing during their seminary education. After moving to Rio Rancho in 1984, Lillian was active in the Rio Rancho Lion's Club where she served as secretary, was elected Lion of the Year in 1994, and was named a Melvin Jones Fellow by the Lions Club International Foundation for dedicated humanitarian service. She served as a trustee of First Baptist Church of Rio Rancho while working as a secretary for International Lubrication and Fuel Consultants, Inc. She was preceded in death by her husband Harlie Burton Mills on April 7, 1985. She is survived by her two children: Burton L. Mills of Wayne, NJ, and his wife Barbara R. Mills; and Barry L. Mills and his wife Susan W. Mills. She had five grandchildren: Heather M. Wichmann, Barry L. "Rip" Mills, Jr., Burton R. Mills, Robert H. Mills, Julia L. Mills. She leaves two great grandchildren, Emily T. Wichmann and Alexander L. Wichmann. Arrangements are being handled by Vista Verde Funeral Home in Rio Rancho. The family asks that contributions in lieu of flowers be made to the First Baptist Church of Rio Rancho's building fund.
