Obituary for UNGER

John Evald Unger, 84, a resident of Rio Rancho since 1987, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2004. John was born March 13, 1919 the son of Ellwood E. and Phoebe Elizabeth Unger in Davenport, Iowa. The family moved to Meridian, Mississippi when he was four and he graduated from high school there. He was an engineering graduate of Purdue University. He married Charlene Lousie Parker in 1951 and they resided in Bay Village, Ohio for almost 25 years; during which time he was employed by General Electric Co. as a field engineer and power specialist. His assignments included power installation supervision for NASA, Ford Motor Facilities, Steel Mills, etc. He retired as a chief electrical engineer for the consulting engineering firm of De Leuw Cather in Washington, DC for whom he had worked since 1971. His responsibilities included electrical design for the Washington, DC, Baltimore, and Singapore subway systems. He was a member of the Chimisa Hills Country Club (formerly Rio Rancho Country Club) enjoying golf and the social activities. He is survived by his wife, Charlene; son, David; grandson, Joshua; daughter, Beth Matsushima and husband Bob; granddaughters, Cristina and Catherine. Private services will be held at a later date.
