Obituary for DOLDE

Walter J. Dolde, 99, was born Thursday, August 25, 1904, in Albuquerque, and died on Friday, January 23, 2004 in Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Erma C. Dolde on March 11, 1993. Mr. Dolde is survived by sister, Lydia Upshaw of Globe, AZ; sister-in-law, Marie; several nieces and nephews; very dear friends, Phyllis and James McPherson, and Dianne and Charles Palmer, all of Albuquerque; and a host of other friends. Mr. Dolde attended the University of New Mexico where he was elected to membership in the Phi Kappa Phi Honorary Scholastic Society and graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1926. He then joined Westinghouse Electric Manufacturing Company working as a graduate student in the East Pittsburgh, Sharon and Derry Plants, in Pennsylvania and the Newark Plant in New Jersey. Upon completion of the graduate student course, he worked in the El Paso sales office of Westinghouse. In March, 1929, he returned to Albuquerque to work for the Albuquerque Gas and Electric Company which became Public Service Company of New Mexico in 1950. He took early retirement in 1959 and then operated Walter Dolde Sales Company until 1971 selling electrical equipment and electronic components. Mr. Dolde was a Past Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of New Mexico, Potentate of Ballut Abyad Shrine Temple of New Mexico in 1950, Treasurer of Ballut Abyad Shrine Temple for forty years and was elected Treasurer Emeritus in 1995; Director of Albuquerque Court No. 24, Royal Order of Jesters, Impresario of Albuquerque Court No. 24 for 38 years and was elected Impresario Emeritus in 1986. He was elected 33rd degree I.G.H. member of the Santa Fe Consistory of Scottish Rite Masons in 1975. He was a past Puissant Sovereign of the Red Cross of Constantine. Mr. Dolde was also a Life Member and 51ers of Albuquerque Lodge #461 of the B.P.O. Elks. He was Charter President of the Albuquerque Optimist Club in 1940 and president again in 1974, Past Lieutenant Governor of the New Mexico - West Texas District of Optimist International; Past President of the Albuquerque Knife and Fork Club; Past president of the New Mexico Society of Professional Engineers; Past President of the Albuquerque Petroleum Club and a Senior Member of the Albuquerque Country Club and a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity Albuquerque Alumni Association, and Past President of the 100 Club of New Mexico. Mr. Dolde was a life Member of Temple Lodge #6 A.F. & A. M. of Albuquerque, member of the York Rite Bodies of Albuquerque, Life Member of the Santa Fe Consistory of Scottish Rite of Masons of New Mexico, and a Life Member of Ballut Abyad Shrine Temple of New Mexico. He was a life long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Services will be held Tuesday, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. Pallbearers will be Ted McWhorter, Richard Driskill, Gary Schwartzman, Dale Pipher, William Lord and Roy Patton. Friends may visit, Monday, 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. Masonic graveside services will be conducted.
