Obituary for BLACK

Ernestine W. "Tina" Black died peacefully from complications of congestive heart failure on January 16, 2004. Tina was born on January 31, 1914 in Tallapoosa, GA. At the age of two, she ventured west with her parents, Ernest C. "Ernie" and Mae L. Welch. They settled in Albuquerque where Ernie built and was the proprietor of the Highland Pharmacy. Tina graduated from Albuquerque High and attended UNM. During this time she was the first queen of Tingley Beach. She studied at the Chicago Conservatory of Music and graduated from the University of Southern California with a musical degree. Tina lived in California, Farmington, NM, then finally came home to Albuquerque. She became active in the democratic party and was the executive secretary in Albuquerque to the late Senator Clinton P. Anderson. Tina was a member of the Albuquerque Chapter of the Santa Fe Opera Guild, The Daughters of the Nile, and was a deacon in the First Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy B. Mullen; her granddaughter, Michelle "Mikki" Mullen, and by George Pino. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Patrick John Mullen. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to Dr. Russell Schultz, whose medical expertise kept her alive and well for so many years. We also want to thank the entire staff of Montebello Nursing Home and Presbyterian Hospice.
