Obituary for SKILLEN

Marjorie Brooks Skillen died December 15, 2003 after a brief illness. She was born Marjorie Brooks on September 30, 1916 in Denver, Colorado to Josephine Chapman and John Powell Brooks. She had one brother, John Powell Brooks, Jr. Marge grew up in Denver, becoming an accomplished pianist and developing the love for reading that she later passed on to her children. She left to attend Colorado College for one year before returning to complete her degree at Denver University. She worked for United Airlines during the war, and taught school in Las Animas, Colorado. Marge moved to Albuquerque where she obtained her Masters' degree and continued teaching. She married Jack Skillen in 1949, and aside from two years in Denver, lived in Albuquerque until moving to Salem, Oregon in 1994. Marge's husband Jack and her grandson Ian McCann preceded her in death. She is survived by daughters Sally Daly and Shirley Gregory, grandchildren Megan and Owen Daly, Kevin McCann, and Christine Gregory, and great grandchildren Riley Ian, Trinity, and Patrick McCann.
