Obituary for GONZALES

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Tuesday January 13, 2004

Josie Diosinita Gonzales, 93, a life long resident of New Mexico went to meet her creator on Sunday January 11, 2004. Josie was born the eldest of nine on March 24, 1910 to Casimiro and Genoveva Martinez in San Marcial, New Mexico. Josie was surrounded by family and friends at the time of separation of body and spirit. To know Josie, is to know honesty and love. Her enthusiasm for life included her family, and joy for music, dancing, and cooking her delicious foods. A part of history will go with Josie, but she left us with a lot of stories; some happy, others sad, but nevertheless memories, and her legend will live on. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nazario Gonzales in 1980; a grandson, Anthony Gonzales in 1995; a sister, Della; and six brothers, Filiberto, Marcos, Jermias, Mercedes, Gabriel, and Francisco. Josie is survived by her daughter, Susan Pino and her husband, Mariano of Belen; sons, Casimiro Gonzales and his wife, Connie of Sylmar, California, and Joe Gonzales and his wife, Georgia of Belen; ten grandchildren; 17 great- grandchildren; a sister, Siprianita Ortega; and two sisters-in- laws, Mrs. Procopio Gonzales (Jovita), and Mrs. Susano Baldonado (Aurora); and one granduncle, Matias Martinez and his wife, Frances. A visitation for Josie will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 at Riverside Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 15, 2003 at 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church with Father Mark Honhart officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Gonzales, Matthew Gonzales, Marcus Gonzales, Johnny Gonzales, Roman Martinez, and Victor Gonzales.
