Obituary for BARNETT

James W. Barnett passed away on December 31, 2003. James was born on July 6, 1924 in Jonesboro, IN. he was the son of Nolan Huff Barnett and Eula May Barnett. He graduated from Winchester (IN) High School in 1942. In 1943 he entered the U.S. Army. He served as an advance scout for General George Patton in WWII. He was the recipient of two purple hearts. In September of 1946, he entered Wabash College and completed his degree at the University of New Mexico. He also finished his Masters at UNM. He was employed by ACF Industries and Sandia. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary F. Barnett. He was preceded in death by his son, James Barnett Jr., and his brother, Richard H. Barnett. Other survivors include his nephew Jeffrey S. Barnett and wife Nancy, niece Jennifer Anderson, and other great nieces and nephews. James was a lifetime member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lions Eye Bank. A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2004 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Strong-Thorne Mortuary. Services will be held on Friday, January 9, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. in Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary, with Reverend Charles Crutchfield officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of: Strong-Thorne Mortuary 1100 Coal Ave. SE 842-8800.
