Obituary for JOHNSON

Melvain Wadley Johnson, April 2, 1917 -December 21, 2003. Melvain Johnson was born to Marshall Fields Wadley and Ruth Johnson Wadley on April 2, 1917 in LaGrange, Tennessee. She was raised in Geary, Oklahoma with three sisters, Rosey May Ritchey, Mattie B. Williams and Louise Edwards; two brothers, Doc Frank Wadley and James E. Wadley. She is survived by her sister, Louise Edwards of Los Angeles, CA; and six children, Janet Hunter, Albuquerque. Joyce Terry, Aurora, CO, Juanita Tucker (John), Germantown MD, Jewell Welford, Freehold, NJ, Jonathan Johnson, Tacoma WA, and Jerry Johnson, Albuquerque. Mrs. Johnson had 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of other nieces and nephews and extended family. Mrs. Johnson worked for Civil Service at Sandia Base, NM for over 38 years. She retired in 1980. She served her community in various capacities, i.e., President of the Neighborhood Association and was honored by Mayor Chavez for her community service. Mrs. Johnson served as a Steward, and was a member of the Missionary Society at Grant Chapel AME Church where she has been an active member serving on various boards since 1940. A Visitation for Mrs. Johnson will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2003, 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at Grant Chapel AME Church, 7920 Claremont NE Albuquerque, NM 87110. A Memorial Celebration will follow at 3:00 p.m., Grant Chapel AME Church with Reverend John D. Hill, M. Div. Officiating.
