Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Tuesday December 09, 2003

Miguel Archibeque, La Voz Inolvidable, was called to Heaven on Sunday, December 7, 2003, after a very long illness. Miguel was a Native Son of the Old Town Area, where he was born to Mike and Ageda Archibeque. He grew up there and attended San Felipe School and St. Marys High School. Miguel was preceded in death by his nephew Ernie Archibeque and was the devoted husband, of 41 years, of Darlene Archibeque. Together they were one soul. He is also survived by his children Anthony Archibeque and wife Kathy, Anna Archibeque and husband Efren Chavez, Ramona Vargas and husband Lawrence, Joe Archibeque and wife Valerie; his beloved grandchildren, Jesus, Amanda, Joseph, Nathan, Anthony III and Danielle Archibeque, Victoria Vargas and his special Little Angel Savannah Archibeque. He was so proud of his family. Also surviving are his sisters Virginia Archibeque of Albuquerque, Ramona Everett and husband Bob of Kingsville, TX, and his most special brother Ernest Archibeque and wife Genevieve of Albuquerque; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Miguel was an avid musician, with a most beautiful voice. He began performing in 1953 and was the first local musician to cut a record with a National Recording Company, Latin Lover, in 1961. Miguel was the lead voice of Los Reyes de Albuquerque, together with Roberto Martinez, they started the group 43 years ago and they performed extensively across the nation, from the Hollywood Palladium in California to Las Vegas, Washington, DC., and New York. Miguel also has material at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC. He was a very conservative person and never boasted of his talents, but his very proud family did and always will, as his voice and music will always be heard throughout New Mexico and the Country. He was a beloved legacy in his lifetime and will always be remembered as a kind and loving person who always wanted to see his fellow musicians succeed. Miguel is deeply missed by all who knew him and especially by his loving family. Memorial Services will be held at San Felipe Catholic Church in Old Town. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2003. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 10, 2003. Private interment will follow.
