Irene P. Martinez, 83, a longtime resident of Edgewood, NM, passed away Friday December 5, 2003, at home with her family by her side. She was born February 28, 1920, in Chilili, NM, to Damacio and Sara (Gutierrez) Pohl. Irene married Andres Martinez, January 16, 1937, in Manzano, NM, together they had one son and two daughters. She is survived by son Andy and wife Eileen Martinez of Edgewood, NM; two daughters, Mabel and husband Filiberto Martinez, of Espanola, NM, and Vivian and husband Ray Flores, of Albuquerque, NM; one brother Dennis Pohl; two sisters, Alviria Vigil, and Carmen Gallegos; eight grandchildren, Adam Martinez, Lorieann Martinez, Karen Hendricks, Rebecca Martinez Lucero, Michael Flores, Elizabeth Denz, Lynore Martinez, and Carmela Martin; twelve great grandchildren, Albino Gallardo, Esteban Gallardo, Javier Gallardo, Jerry Hendricks, Katlynn Hendricks, Derek Denz, Mark Martin, Megan Martin, Jennifer Flores, Austin Flores, Kaitlyn Patrick, and Baby Hendricks on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Damacio and Sara Pohl; her husband Andres Martinez; one grandson Mark Martinez; four brothers, Amadeo Pohl, Jacobo Bachicha, Augustine Pohl, and Moises Pohl; three sisters Polinaria Gutierrez, Isabel Martinez, and Jessie Apodaca. Irene was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Moriarty, NM, and will be remembered as a very loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, and will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. A Vigil and Rosary will be recited Monday December 8, 2003-7:30 PM, and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday December 9, 2003-10:00 AM, with father Joe Vigil and Father Anthony Martinez, officiating, both at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Moriarty, NM. Burial will follow at the Martinez Cemetery, in Edgewood, NM. Pallbearers will be Adam Martinez, Dan Hendricks, Chris Lucero, Christopher Denz, David Martin, and Michael Flores. Honorary Pallbearers will be Albino Gallardo, Esteban Gallardo, Javier Gallardo, Jerry Hendricks, Derek Denz, Mark Martin, and Austin Flores.
