Obituary for BUCHANAN

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday December 07, 2003

Susan. These words mark the passage of Susan Jane Buchanan, beloved mother, daughter, sister, friend. She died Monday, December 1, 2003 after an heroic battle with cancer, six days short of her 60th birthday. Born December 6, 1943 in National City, CA, Susan touched the lives of thousands during her time on Earth. Before coming to New Mexico in 1985, she lived in Honolulu, HI, where she taught school and later raised her two sons. Susan loved animals and throughout her years, she surrounded herself with them astounding and enlightening the people in her life with an unconditional love for all living things. Those lucky enough to have known her learned from Susan the simple beauty found everywhere in this world; from the majesty of a tree to the daily miracle of a sunset. She reminded us all how fortunate we are to love, and in her passing, reminded us all how fortunate we were to have known her. She is survived by her mother, Mary Kathryn Holzer; brother, Mike; sister-in-law, Sue; her two sons, William Youngue Buchanan III and Robert Patrick Buchanan; and her beloved nephews, Michael, Robb and his wife, Kristen. Susan's time among us, while fulfilling and complete, was altogether brief, and the world is a lesser place for her loss. She was loved and still is. A Memorial will be held at 4:00 p.m. on December 20, 2003 at Susan's home in Corrales, 60 Via Oreada, 87048. (505) 898-8131. In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome donations to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, PO Box 650309 Dallas, TX 75265, (888) 888-3317.
