Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday November 19, 2003

Donald Dixon, November 14, 1945 - November 14, 2003. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother died unexpectedly at home. His love of his family, the natural world around him, and his keen interest in and knowledge of world history, literature and politics informed his life and ours. Don was born in Dallas, TX in 1945 and raised in Europe and the US. He attended college at the American University in Washington, DC, and the University of New Mexico where he earned his B.S. and M.S. in Civil Engineering. Prior to moving to the Skagit Valley, Don lived in New Mexico for 32 years. Don's job as a civil engineer for Skagit Valley was a perfect fit for him and his colleagues. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Sandy; daughter, Jessica Natta; grandchildren, Zachary and Hannah Horton; mother, Gertrude Slaughter; sisters, Barbara McGlynn and Virginia Rodriguez; brother, Robert Slaughter; and all those close friends and colleagues who were the beneficiaries of his graceful intelligence, humor and kindness. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 21, 2003 at the La Conner Flats, 15290 Mount Vernon, WA at 2:00 p.m. Contributions to honor his memory may be made to the Skagitonians to Preserve Farmland; to the Lincoln Theater; or to another favorite local organization.
