Obituary for MATHIS

Howard Michael "Mike" Mathis, beloved son, husband, and father, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2003. Michael was born in Alexandria, Louisiana on November 13, 1978 to Charles Edward Mathis and Joan Busby Mathis. In 1997, Michael graduated from Tallulah Academy in Tallulah, Louisiana. Shortly after graduation, he served our country honorably as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps. He received numerous commendations including the Rifle Marksman Badge, Pistol Sharpshoot Badge, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Sea Service Deployment Medal, Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Sea Service Deployment Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, and Certificate of Commendation. On May 28, 2003, Michael married his lifelong friend, Amanda Rose Kaski, at Goodman's Bay, Nassau, the Bahamas. Michael was an EMT Basic and volunteer at the Belen Fire Department. He was actively involved in the US Parachute Association and a member of Skydive New Mexico. Throughout his life, he traveled around the United States and to Germany, Guam, Pelilu, Babledop, Tinian Delaney, Okinawa, the Philippines, Japan, and Thailand. Michael loved to hunt, fish, write, clean his truck, and be outdoors. He is survived by his parents, Charles and Joan Mathis; his two beautiful daughters, Emma Athena and Nadia Eliane; his wife, Amanda; his brother, Charles Mathis; his grandfathers, Howard Busby and Robert; and his five nieces and nephews, Colby, Chuck, and Dakota Mathis, and Andrew and Ashley Shore.
