Obituary for MERBLER

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Saturday November 08, 2003

Alice W. Merbler, 84, passed away in her sleep at home early Sunday morning, November 2, 2003. Born in Waterloo, New York on April 20, 1919, Alice lived in Albuquerque since August, 1951. Alice, lovingly known as "Goose" by her family, was preceded in death by her husband Leo, in 1999. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Sue Nichols of Grand Rapids, Minnesota; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Chuck Nelson of Tijeras; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Donna and Tom Hatfield of Portland, Oregon; stepson and daughter-in-law, Keith and Roni Merbler of Albuquerque; twelve grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law and numerous nephews and nieces. For more than 40 years, the Merblers owned and operated Crown T.V. and Appliance in Albuquerque. When they retired, Alice and Leo, both avid travelers, became full-time RV'ers and eventually visited forty-nine of the fifty states, missing only Alaska. After several years of their vagabond lifestyle, Leo's failing eyesight forced them to give up traveling and they settled in S.E. Albuquerque. In the four years following Leo's death, Alice was involved in many senior activities and will be greatly missed, not only by her family and neighbors, but also by her many friends at Bear Canyon and Palo Duro Senior Centers. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations in Alice's name be made to Mother's Against Drunk Driving
