Mary Cohrs was born March 24, 1921, in Alticane, Saskatchewan, Canada. Her parents, Andrew Gulgan and Anastazia Wilikij, were Ukranian immigrants who entered the United States through Ellis Island, New York, about 1917. Mary was the youngest of three children and is preceded in death by her sister, Anne Morris, of Windsor, Ontario, Canada. She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Rusk; her granddaughters, Dr. Regine Rusk Fortunov of Houston, TX and Melanie Rusk, of Dallas, TX; her sister, Kay Brietzke of Alberta, Canada; and her niece, Rose Ann Frood of Avon Park, FL. Mary was married on January 27, 1947, to Raymond Cohrs, a chemical engineer, educated at Queens University in Ontario, Canada. They lived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, until moving to the United States and eventually settling for 30 years in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where Raymond worked for Sandia National Laboratories. After Raymond Cohrs died in 1990, Mary moved to Midland, Texas, to be near her only child, Beverly Rusk, wife of Dr. Larry Rusk and to continue her business in real estate investment. Mary died at home on Wednesday, November 5, 2003, from a recurrence of pancreatic cancer, after surviving treatment two and a half years previous. The funeral will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum in Albuquerque. If you wish to contact the family, please do so through marycohrs@yahoo.com.
