REUBEN EDWARD PANKEY September 22, 1918 - October 28, 2003 Passed from this world into the next from his home in Santa Fe following a battle with cancer. He was a cowboy and rancher in Sierra County, NM; a statesman serving in the NM House of Representatives, consultant to the Public Land Law Review Commission in Washington, DC, member of the Board of Directors of the Albuquerque Production Credit Association, past president of the New Mexico Cattle Growers Association and served honorably with the US Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. A friend of many and particularly of Bill W; the lives he touched have been many. He is survived by his wife Joyce; daughter of his heart, Cecilia Volpe and husband, John; brother-in-law, William A. Simmons and special lady, Nancy Parker; sister, Josephine Thetford and husband, Deward; niece, Dana S. Hardy and husband, Steve; nephew, Kenneth Simmons; nieces, Ann and Suzanne Thetford and their children. Rube is preceded in death by his parents Joe L. and Edith Armer Pankey. Rube loved good horses, fine cattle, and the great western way of life, but most of all, he treasured his family and friends. To his family and special friends " you know who you are " he says, "I am not gone, our love and respect continues forever". At Rube's request after cremation, a Memorial Mass will celebrate his life at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on October 31, 2003, at 9:00 a.m., with interment at a later date.
