Obituary for HIGGINS

Hope Lee (Denson) Higgins, 82, went home to Glory on Sunday, October 19, 2003. She was born Tuesday, July 12, 1921, in Canton, TX, the third of five children of Ernest E. and Oma Denson. Hope attended nursing school in Sweetwater, TX in 1941, where she met Dr. W. B. Higgins who had recently graduated from the National College of Chiropractic in Chicago, IL. They were married November 8, 1941. They arrived in Roswell, NM on December 8, 1941, where they would build his chiropractic practice and raise their family. Hope raised her family and continued to live in Roswell until May 1998, when she moved to Albuquerque to be near her son and granddaughter, Jean Quintana. She was the "Wind Beneath the Wings" of all who were close to her. All of her life energy was given to the success and victories of those around her. She was one of the few people who spoke only soft words and made no enemies in life. Hope was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Dr. W. B. Higgins; her daughter, Edith Marie Lane; and her brother, Bill Denson. She is survived by her son, Wm. Bruce Higgins of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Mary Jean Quintana and husband John of Farmington; granddaughter, Charlotte L. Higgins and fiance, Lance Westing of Dillingham, AK; great-grandson, Thomas Alexander Quintana; brother, Hugh Denson and wife, Eva of Tyler, TX; sisters, Ruth Fricks of Tyler, TX, and Joann Howard and husband, Lee of Huntsville, TX; daughter-in-love, Mary Thornton Higgins of Albuquerque; and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews. Services will be held at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, on Saturday, October 25, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. Graveside service for Roswell area family and friends will be held on Monday, October 27, 2003, 2:00 p.m. at South Park Cemetery in Roswell. Friends may visit French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel on Thursday, October 23, 2003 and Friday, October 24, 2003 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to benefit Alzheimer's Research Foundation in memory of Hope L.
