Obituary for BATTIS

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday October 09, 2003

Joan "Joni" Eleanor Battis, age 66, passed away on October 6, 2003 after a long, hard, brave battle with cancer and post bone-marrow transplant complications. Joni was born May 1, 1936 and lived many years in the Cleveland, Ohio area with her first husband, Roger Baker. She has since resided in Kent, WA and Albuquerque, NM for 24 years with her second husband, Ralph. She has been a loving wife to Ralph and a loving gentle stepmother to Karen Spencer, and Jeff and Craig Battis. She will be missed greatly by her grandchildren, Samuel Joseph Battis and Christopher Spencer; by her brother, Bob Spyak and wife, Eleanor; and by her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Joni was an active sports woman - golf, tennis, skiing and running. She gave freely of her time to her large circle of friends and loved ones. Dearly loved, sorely missed and now with God. There will be a Celebration of Life for her at St. James Episcopal Church, 24447 94th Ave. S. in Kent on Saturday, October 18, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), P.O. Box 19023, Seattle, WA 98109, (indicate in memory of Joan Battis). The staff at the SCCA Clinic and UW Medical Center has been loving, caring and empathetic throughout Joni's care and treatment.
