Obituary for JOHNSON

Shirley Ann Johnson, 73, passed away on September 27, 2003 in Albuquerque where she had resided for the past 15 years. She is survived by Kelley Johnson, her husband of 44 years; son, Paul Johnson of Albuquerque and wife, Julie; and daughter, Sheila Bender and husband, Gary of Tijeras, NM. She is also survived by one sister, Macy Louise Boyles of Brady, TX; Henry E. Falkner of San Angelo, TX, Riley G. Falkner of Abilene, TX, John K. Falkner of Lovington, NM and Robert Falkner of Longview, TX; Six grandchildren, Chad Beal of Santa Ana,TX, Joe Beal of Albuquerque, Cassandra Bender and Crystal Hernandez both of San Antonio, TX, and Cody and Casey Johnson of Albuquerque; and six great-grandchildren. Shirley was born in San Angelo, TX and graduated from high school in Cross Plains, TX in 1947. She was a daughter of the late Rev. Henry V. and Macy Falkner. She was employed in Cross Plains at Citizens State Bank and Higginbotham's Department Store, later moving to Lubbock, TX, then to Austin, TX in 1953 and was employed at the state comptroller's office as a bookkeeper. She later lived in west Texas and Hobbs, NM where she taught children and youth in Bible study classes for ten years. She and her husband moved to Albuquerque in 1988. Until her illness, Shirley was an active member of Hoffmantown Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing bridge and played weekly at Bear Canyon Senior Center. She loved her family and entertained them regularly in her home. Always smiling and trusting in Jesus, she fought a brave battle against ALS. She was an inspiration to every one around her. Services and burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at Walker Funeral Home in Coleman, TX.
