Obituary for MOREROD

Shurley B. Morerod was born on a farm near Harwood, MO on Jauary 28, 1915 and passed away September 22, 2003 at the Christian Health Center in Nevada, MO. He was the son of Samuel Russell Morerod and Anna May Steincross Morerod. Shurley met Jesus as his Lord and Savior on November 11, 1932. He was baptized into the fellowship of Harwood Baptist Church, Harwood, MO. He was ordained a deacon at Harwood Baptist on October 14, 1945. Until his death, he was a deacon at Walker Baptist Church, Walker, MO. He married Etalka Mae Reece on June 15, 1937 at Harwood and to this union were born five sons and three daughters. He was a farmer, south of Harwood, until the family moved to Belen, NM in 1951. While in New Mexico, he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad. The family was actively involved with the First Baptist Church of Belen where Shurley served as a deacon. The family moved back to a farm south of Schell City, MO where he lived until 1980 when he retired and moved back to Harwood. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, Harold Russell; one son, Harold Eugene; two grandchildren, Gwendolyn and Mark B. Morerod; three great-grandchildren; and one granddaughter-in-law. Shurley is survived by three daughters, Judith Caudle and husband, Jon of Weaubleau, MO; Otilla Fox and husband, Robert of Fair Haven, MO; and Gwen Traynor of Manteca, CA; and four sons, Rienhold Morerod and wife, Carolyn of Hull, IL; Boyd Morerod and wife, Samia of Belen, NM; Waggoner Morerod and wife, Karen of Kansas City, KS; and Russell Morerod of Schell City, MO; one daughter-in-law, Nina Morerod of Harwood; 23 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers include Penny Locke, Cary Correa, Robert Fox, Brent McMeans, Zack, Derek, Eric, Terry, Aaron, and Samial B. Morerod. The rest of Shurley's grandchildren will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. A musical concert by the Morerod families will be the major portion of the funeral service as prepared by Shurley with the Rev. John Nichols officiating at the Harwood Baptist Church on Friday, September 26, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. Christian Burial will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery, Harwood, MO.
