Obituary for NEUMON

Elsa Marie Neumon, 80, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, returned peacefully home to God surrounded by her family on Wednesday, September 17, 2003, after a long illness. She is survived by Norman and Viva Neumon, their children George and Laura, and their grandchildren Rebecca and Derek; Kristine Fambrough and her children, Stephanie, Clayton, Jennifer and Jason Simpson, and grandchildren Tyler and Kyra; Stephen and Donna Neumon, their children Kelly and Richard Durrett, Katherine Neumon, Kristin and Zachery Doran, grandchild, Johnathan; Julie and Fred Ambrogi, grandchildren Brian and Jared. Her brother Carl Olson, his children, Linda and Ed Grochowski, Karen and William Homer, Keith and Rhonda Olson and nieces and nephews Rachael, Andrea, Benjamin, Christopher and Alex. Sister-in-law Marie Vitale, nieces and nephews Tommy, Susan, Rosemary and Vinny and their families. Brother-in-law Joe Neumon and wife, Helen, nephews Alfred, Ronnie, Joe and their families. She was preceded in death by husband, Bert Paul Neumon, they married in 1944. Elsa attended Eugene Field Elementary, Lincoln Junior High School, Albuquerque High School and the University of New Mexico. She received her Bachelor's of Science in Education in 1944, after which she joined the Navy WAVES. Elsa was assigned to the Brooklyn Receiving Station where she served as Captain's Yeoman Second Class for the duration of the war. Continuing her education she received a Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling in 1963 and a Doctorate in Education in 1972, from the University of New Mexico. At UNM she was a SPUR and Mortar Board member. Elsa was an employee of the Albuquerque Public Schools educational family. As a Home Economics teacher, she taught at Harrison Junior High School from 1958 - 1960, served as a guidance counselor at Washington Junior High School from 1960 - 1970 and Assistant Principal from 1970 - 1972. She completed her professional career as a Highland High School Hornet serving as Assistant Principal from 1972 - 1985. Since her retirement she has done extensive traveling, served as an active member of the Albuquerque Association of Educational Retirees at both the local and state level. She also served as a volunteer in the Presbyterian Hospital Auxiliary. Elsa was an active member of the local WAVES organization. She has been a life long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she found strength and peace serving in many capacities. Memorial Services will be held Friday, 11:00 a.m., September 26, 2003, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1100 Indian School Road NE, with Reverend Patricia Holman, officiating. Interment of cremains will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, NM on Friday, 3:00 p.m., September 26, 2003.
