Obituary for CHAVEZ

Pete A. (Pedro) Chavez July 4, 1930 - September 5, 2003 Pete A. Chavez, 73, died in California where he resided for the past 35 years. Pete is survived by his wife, Lucy Andrade Chavez; sons, Martin and Pete Jr.; daughter, Gina Chavez Almeyda; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandsons; a sister, Virginia Lujan; and several nieces and nephews. Pete was born in Valencia, New Mexico. He attended Albuquerque High School. He enjoyed telling jokes, hunting, and playing music. An accomplished musician, he played several instruments and performed with several local groups during the 1950s. During this time he married and started a family. He initially worked for Whitmer Mills as a lumberjack and later as a machinist at ACF. He served in the US Army National Guard during the Korean Conflict. In 1968, he moved his wife and daughter to California. He worked as a machinist in the aerospace industry and as a musical instrument repairman for the Los Angeles Unified School District. In his retirement, Pete enjoyed playing video casino games and cards and became a Tai Chi instructor. Rosary and Vigil Service will be at St. Francis Church, 820 Broadway SE in Albuquerque, Thursday, September 18, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will also be at St. Francis Church, Friday, September 19, 2003 at 9:00 a.m. Interment is at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
