Obituary for OWINGS

William H. (Pappy) Owings, age 97, an Albuquerque resident for 53 years, died September 11, 2003. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Margaret E. Owings, and a daughter, Gale Owings, both of Albuquerque: nephew, Robert Rodd and family of CO. Pappy was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He retired from Mt. Bell in 1971 after 41 years of service. He was a life member of Telephone Pioneers of America. He was also a member of the Moberly Lodge # 344 A.F. & A.M. in Missouri for 62 years. He worked at the photo duplication center in Zimmerman Library for 15 years. On February 23, 2000 Mayor Jim Baca presented Pappy with a lifetime pass for any of the city golf courses, and the staff of Puerto Del Sol put up a sign in front of their best parking place that reads "Reserved - don't even think about parking in Pappy's place" as well as a key to a golf cart that he could use at any time. Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at 2:00 p.m., in Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery, 700 Yale Blvd. SE with Pastor Tom Beach of Trinity United Methodist Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Rio Grande Zoo c/o of the New Mexico Zoological Society to help feed the polar bears.
