Obituary for Benham

Robert G. Benham, 83, was born in Bernalillo in 1914 of life long New Mexico families. Bob spent his early life and schooling in Gallup, NM and went to Printer's School in New York. He married Florence E. Shanks in 1937. He worked at the Gallup Independent Newspaper until he moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1945. He worked for the Albuquerque newspapers for a while then moved to the Valliant Printing Company, retiring in 1979. Bob is survived by his wife, Florence Benham; son Robert A. Benham and wife, Susan; daughter, Mary Joan Windes and husband, Thomas C.; seven grandchildren; three nieces; and one nephew; brother, Walter Lee Benham, all of Albuquerque; and sister-in-law, Virginia H. Shanks of Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Benham Cooper. Bob and Florence became members of First United Methodist Church and the Quester's class in 1945, and have remained faithful supporters ever since. Bob was active in Scouting and Demolay (he served as the NM State Master Councilor) both as a member and advisor. He was active in Masons, Temple Lodge #6 A.F.&A.M., and he was a member of the Typographical Union. He was a good, faithful and loved husband and father, always giving his time and love to his family. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 314 Lead SW, at 1:30 p.m. on October 9 1998, with Rev. Clyde Stanfield officiating. Private disposition will take place. Honorary Pallbearers will be Carl Williams, Jim Yeager, Don Williams, Lee Benham, Connor Windes, Todd Windes and Alan Benham. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First United Methodist Church, 314 Lead SW, 87102, or to The Cottages of Albuquerque, 3920 Juan Tabo NE, 87111.
