Antonio J."Papa Tony" Chavez, 48, died August 20, 1998 in Albuquerque. He was born September 9, 1949 in Albuquerque to Melisendro and Deluvina Rael Chavez. He was a veteran of the Viet Nam War. He is survived by his two daughters, Marie Chavez and Erica Chavez, both of Albuquerque; one son, Eric Chavez; two sisters, Velma Garcia and Criselda Zamora, both of Albuquerque; three brothers, Joe Chavez, Richard Chavez and Leonard Chavez, all of Albuquerque; and one grandchild, Benny Sedillo. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 23, 1998 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, August 24, 1998 at 9:00 a.m. at the San Jose Catholic Church, 2401 Broadway SE. Father Joseph A. Farias officiating. Pallbearers: Richard Chavez, Joe Chavez, Leonard Chavez, Eddie Zamora, Erika Chavez and Marie Chavez. Honorary Pallbearers: Benny Sedillo and Lucy Sepulveda-Chavez. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. Strong-Thorne Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
