Obituary for Chavez

Barbara S. Chavez (Nina), 94, native and resident of Albuquerque, passed away September 11, 1998 from an advanced tumor in the liver. Barbara, a teacher at A.P.S. for 45 years, taught at Riverview Elementary, she also tutored her niece and nephews. Barbara, a gentle soul taught everyone valuable lessons by example, giving of herself to the end, she will always be"La Maestra." She will be dearly missed by all she touched. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Jenny Sanchez; nephew, Joseph Stanley Sanchez and his wife, Lupe; niece, Elizabeth Ann Garcia and her husband, Lorenzo with whom Barbara resided with since 1967; niece, Nancy Agnes Craig, daughter of her brother, John; nieces, (Edmund Sanchez-father) Eloisa Sanchez, Nancy Banera, Pricilla Garcia and husband, Manuel Garcia, Eleanor Barns, and nephew Raymond Sanchez. Many great and great-great-grand nephews and nieces also survive her. She is preceded in death by her brother, Edmund Sanchez and wife, Eleanor; her brother, Augustine Sanchez, husband of Jenny Sanchez; and her brother, John Sanchez and wife, Emma. The Rosary will be held on Sunday evening, 7:00 p.m. at Salazar & Sons Mortuary, 400 3rd St. SW. Funeral Services will be held on Monday at the Immaculate Conception Church, 6th St. and Copper, where the Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lorenzo J. Garcia, Lorenzo C.A. Garcia, Ernest R. Gurule, Salvador (Sonny) Maes, Joseph Stanley Sanchez and Tim Schartor. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Salazar & Sons Mortuary, 400 3rd St. SW.
