Obituary for Fleming

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday September 06, 1998

Sidney D. (Sid) Fleming passed away September 2 at the age of 88. His youth was spent on the family ranch near Artesia where Sid attended high school. During WWII he worked for Douglas Aircraft at their plant in Los Angeles. Near the end of the war Sid moved to Albuquerque where he and his brother started a house painting business. After retirement he converted his fiddle-making hobby into an after retirement profession which gave him and his wife, Kay, the opportunity to travel to fiddle contests all over the country. In addition to competing in the contests, Sid also enjoyed the opportunity to display his many handmade instruments. He was often called on to help his fellow fiddlers by making on the spot repairs to their instruments. He was honored by induction into the Old Time Fiddlers Hall of Fame. Sid has now joined his beloved Kay in that great ever after where Old Time Fiddlers go to play for the Master. He is survived by his daughter, Tenna Daliposon of Santa Clara, California; two sons, Rev. Charles Windsor of Springerville, AZ, and James Windsor of Clovis, CA; nine grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren; a nephew, Buddy Fleming of Estanchia; and a niece, Ginger Hamaker of Colorado. Internment will be in Lovington, NM. If you so desire, make contributions in Sid's honor to the charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE.
