Obituary for Valverde

Juan F. Valverde of Ponderosa, NM, passed away Friday in Albuquerque, NM. He is survived by his wife, Amalia Gonzales; one brother, Refugio Valverde of Oakdale, CA; three daughters, Rosalie Niebes of Ponderosa, NM, Frances Strain of Canon, NM, Elizabeth Loya of Ponderosa, NM; one son, John Valverde of Ponderosa, NM. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Jenette Heinson of Ponderosa, NM, Bob Bottomley of Farmington, NM, Lori Perea of Rio Rancho, NM, Kevin Bottomley of Carbon Dale, CO, Lynette Niebes of Las Vegas, NM, John Andrew Loya of Ponderosa, NM; four great-grandchildren, Kathryn Perea, Courtney Bottomley, Arthur Trujillo, Rianon Stephens. He attended Sandoval County Schools in Jemez Pueblo. He served in the Army where he was a Private First Class. On December 14, 1941, he married Amalia in the San Diego Mission in Jemez Pueblo. He was a logger and rancher. He enjoyed farming, community activities, local politics, and watching boxing. He was a board member for the Jemez Valley Public School for 12 years. He was also involved in the local cattlemen's association, and the Sandoval County Soil Conservation. He was a member of the Santo Toribio Church in Ponderosa, NM. There will be visitation today from 2:00-4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited tonight at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Juan's name to the American Cancer Society, 401 N. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL 60611. Services are entrusted to Alameda Mortuary, 9420 4th Street.
