Obituary for Levy

Clara E. Levy passed away Saturday, May 23, 1998 at Lovelace Hospital in Albuquerque. She is survived by her husband, Jerome of Albuquerque; daughter, Diane Levy Salo, wife of Michael Salo of Placitas; brother, John C. Cory, husband of Sunny Cory; niece, Nancy Cory; grandniece, Megan Cory, all of Albuquerque; brother, Homer D. Cory, husband of Betty Cory of Leavenworth, KS; and niece, Lynda Cory Robison of Utah. She was born in Leavenworth, KS on August 8, 1919, to Homer D. Cory and Eloise Catlin Cory. Mrs. Levy graduated from Park College in 1941 and worked as a medical social worker after graduation in St. Louis. She attended Washington University, where she received a Master's degree in Social Work. She subsequently worked as a medical social worker at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She then moved to Denver, CO, where she worked at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital. Later she worked at the Colorado State Health Department, where she met Jerome Levy. She became a full-time homemaker, though remaining active in community, serving as a volunteer on a suicide and crisis prevention hotline in Boulder. Upon moving to Albuquerque in 1966, Mrs. Levy became a member of the UNM Faculty Wives Club. She had been an active member of the League of Women Voters, having been a member since her tenure in Boston. At the 1998 annual meeting, May 9, she became a member of the League's Roll of Honor. She served as membership chair for many years. She was a longtime member of PEO and the American Association of University Women. The family requests, that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the League of Women Voters (LWV/ABC) or the League's Education Fund, 5015 Prospect NE 87110. Memorial services will be held at Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal SE, Wednesday, May 27 at 2:00 p.m. in the Palm Chapel, with Richard M. Trelease Jr. officiating.
