Obituary for Houston

M. Lloyd Houston, 85, a resident of Albuquerque since 1967, died on Thursday, December 24, 1998. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Norma Jean Houston of Albuquerque; daughters, Carla Fisher and husband, Russell of Houston, TX, Debra Yoshimura of Albuquerque, and Shari Zinik and husband, Steve of Salt Lake City, UT; granddaughters, Lesley Fisher, Andrea Fisher, Mariko Yoshimura, and Kiri Yoshimura; sister, Dannie Houston of Parsons, TN, Melvin Houston and wife, Fran of LaGrange, GA, Marie Barrett and husband, Keylon of Parsons, TN, and Virginia Ivey of Wiggins, MS. Mr. Houston attended Cryptography School in Pawling, NY. He was a S. Sgt. Cryptographic Technician. He served his country during World War II, as a Cryptographer, in the 723rd, AAFTTC, from October 1942 to February 1946, on the Island of Trinidad, it was post he enjoyed. Mr. Houston worked for the US Forrest Service for 35 years. He was a member of American Legion Post $49, and the Elks Lodge. He was active with the Senior Olympics, participating in local, state and national competitions, as well as events in other states. He excelled in running the dashes, winning many medals. Mr. Houston was featured in New Mexico magazine, and Runner's World. He was a role model for seniors, as well as for younger people. Services will be held Monday, December 28, 1998, 10:30 a.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas NE. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, New Mexico.
