Obituary for Mannan

Helen Lee Mannan, age 78, of San Angelo, TX, formerly of Albuquerque, passed away on Thursday, December 10, 1998. Helen was born on September 13, 1920 to J. Riley and Elizabeth Mays in Marathon, TX. She entered the military during World War II and worked for the Army as a kitchen employee in Georgia until her discharge in 1944. On October 23, 1946, she met and married Virgil Ray Mannan in Van Horn, TX and was a faithful housewife until his death in 1982. She was a devoted member of Rio Grande Baptist Church for many years. Helen also loved to bake for the church and her many friends, with her specialty being cakes and cookies. Helen is also survived by three sisters, Virgie Lambert of San Angelo, Lucy Huff of Albuquerque, NM and Colleen Simpson and husband, Walter also of Albuquerque, NM; two brothers, J.R. Mays and wife, Mary of San Angelo and Bob Mays and wife, Dixie of Whittier, CA. She also has two very special grandsons, Michael and Sammy Havins; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Helen will be loved and dearly missed by all of her friends and relatives. Visitation will be held Monday, December 14, 1998 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE. A Graveside Service will be held Monday, December 14, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. in Sandia Memory Gardens with Pastor Gerald Wood officiating. Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE, in charge of arrangements.
