Obituary for Bodenbender

Karl R. Bodenbender, 86, of San Antonio, Texas, died Saturday, October 31 at 2:34 p.m. in Heartland Nursing Home, San Antonio, TX. He was born December 23, 1911 in Paulding County, Ohio, the son of George W. and Mary Elizabeth (McCague) Bodenbender. On May 18, 1935, he married Doris Donaldson, who survives in San Antonio. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. James (Evelyn) Gillmore, Concord, CA; daughter-in-law, Karen Bodenbender, San Antonio; three sisters, Helen March and Rebecca Bobenmeyer, both of Defiance, OH, Ruth Mayes, Continental, OH; five grandchildren, Scott Gillmore, Concord, CA, Debora Watkins, Diane Bodenbender, and Derek Bodenbender, all of San Antonio, TX, David Bodenbender, Austin, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, D. George Bodenbender and Karl E. Bodenbender; two sisters, Bessie Skiver and Georgia King; and four brothers, John, Fremont, Paul and Melford. He was a member of the American and Ohio Association of School Administrators; National Education Association; Ohio Education Association; spent 38 years in Education, retiring from Ohio Public School Systems in 1970, followed by two years in a private school; 28 years in School Administration for various school districts, Northwestern High School in North Hampton, OH, Bellefontaine High School; Princeton Schools and Christian High Schools in Cincinnati, OH; also was a coach. He was a member for 41 years in the Gideons International. He enjoyed writing articles/poems, of which some were published. He also enjoyed painting scenes of the Rio Rancho, NM area where he lived following his retirement from the late 1970s until 1991. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 9, 11:00 a.m., at North Mt. Zion Church, Continental, Ohio. Burial will be in North Mt. Zion Cemetery, Continental, OH. Friends may call Sunday, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, CONTINENTAL, OHIO. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Gideons International or American Lung Association.
