Obituary for Steller

H.B."Stretch" Steller, 75, a resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, April 6, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Steller of the family home; daughter, Kelly Lyn Steller of Albuquerque; son, Alfred W. Steller of Spartensburg, SC; and three granddaughters. Mr. Steller was preceded in death by his sister, Ann S. Bales. He was born to Berta Jane Wathall Steller and Alfred William Steller in Rocky Mount, VA on September 5, 1922. The family moved to Welch, WV, where H.B. graduated from Welch High School. He attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, VA. Mr. Steller was a veteran of WWII, having served in the US Army Air Force and retiring after 21 years as a Major. He was part of Strategic Air Command from it's inception until his retirement. At retirement, he moved to Albuquerque and became associated with the Dodge division of the Chrysler Corporation until retiring again in 1990. Services will be held Thursday, 9:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Interment will take place at 11:30 a.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, NM. Pallbearers will be Vincent J. Lardner Jr., Timothy J. Lardner, David W. Lardner, Scott C. Lardner, Vincent J. Lardner III, and John P. Lardner. Honorary pallbearers will be Col. Harold F. Johnson and John E. Mechenbier. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Wednesday, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, 6614 Gulton Ct.
