Obituary for Roberts

On July 15, 1998, Richard James Roberts of 1625 Fornax Rd., Rio Rancho, NM, went on to be with the Lord. His wife, Ceridwen; his three sons, Rick, Tom and Keith; and his four grandchildren, Ricky, Renee, Steven and Timothy survive him, as well as nephews, Daniel and Michael; and his niece, Patricia, from Vermont. Born and raised in Poultney, Vermont, Dick joined the Marine Corps at age 17, where he served in the South, Central, Pacific area for three years. His unit received several citations for bravery during the battle of Munda and the New Georgia group campaign. After service, he graduated from Castleton State Teachers College in Vermont and Colombia University in New York City. Dick was a proud member of American Legion Post 118. He taught emotionally disturbed children at the Boy's Home in New York. He wrote poetry, short stories and sang for the American Theater Wing in New York. He donated his time and talent to charity. He moved to New Mexico in 1978, became an avid golfer and Lobo fan. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 53 years; by his three sons who loved him dearly; and his four grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe on Friday, July 17, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. Burial arrangements by Direct Services, 343-8008, 4501 4th NW.
