Obituary for Himes

Petra E. Himes, 81, an Albuquerque resident since 1958, died December 1, 1998 at Anna Kaseman Hospital. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lucinda Markey; by her husband of 62 years, Robert L. Himes; and by a daughter, Dorothy Gibbs. She is survived by her twin brother, Miguel Elorreaga and his wife, Mary of El Paso, Texas; sister, Alice Traweek of Manden, CT; daughters, Bobbie Himes-Hadfield and husband, Fred of Norwood, NC, Carolyn Gillespie and husband, Dean of Reserve, NM, Michelle Caldwell and husband, Michael of Albuquerque; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Himes was a member and past president of Uptown Garden Club. In addition to her membership, she was a past editor of the State Garden Club magazine, served as president of Albuquerque Council of Garden Clubs, and was master of ceremonies for the dedication of the Albuquerque Garden Center. She received the Designer of the Year award in 1988 for her specialty in table settings. Other civic contributions made by Mrs. Himes prior to moving to Albuquerque include secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, president of Lioness Club, and years of service with the P.T.A. at her children's schools. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 4, 1998 at Chapel of Sandia Funeral Care, 7601 Wyoming Blvd. NE. There will be no visitation, and interment will be private.
