Obituary for Joppa

Richard Marvin"Marv" Joppa, age 70, of Los Alamos, died Sunday, December 12, 1999, from complications of pneumonia. Born in Littleton, Colorado, he grew up in the small town of Hillrose. Graduating from Colorado State University, he became a regular officer in the United States Air Force, completing a 20 year career and earning a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois. For 18 years, he was employed by the Los Alamos National Laboratory as an engineer and a budget analyst. He became a private pilot with an instrument rating. Preceded in death by his daughter, Dianne Dawn Joppa-Nelis, he is survived by his wife, Maxine; and a daughter, Marian Arlyss Joppa of Farmington. At the request of the deceased there will be no service. Scattering of ashes will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a favorite charity.
