Obituary for Maclay

J. Dale Maclay passed away on December 15, 1999. He was born on Easter Sunday, March 27, 1932 in Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Erin Weller Maclay and Edgar Gleim Maclay; and his sister, Erin Maclay Furman. He is survived by his son, John D. Maclay Jr. and wife, Kris; daughter, Heather Maclay Williams and husband, Ben; son, Samuel Augustus Maclay and wife, Paula of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Hayden Virginia Williams, Jon Miller Williams and Mary Martha Maclay; brother, Douglas Weller Maclay and wife, Sue of Dallas, TX; longtime, devoted friend, Esther G. Andrau; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dale was an active member of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, where he will be missed by members of the Covenant Class. He had a lifelong passion for flying and was an avid pilot, having served in the United States Army Air Corps as a second Lieutenant. His volunteer service to various organizations brought him great joy, particularly flying physicians and medical supplies to the Hospital Presbiteriano de Mainero, Villa Mainero, Mexico, which serves the poor of that rural area, and his involvement with the Harris County Aerial Law Enforcement Response Team, which provides search and rescue assistance to area law enforcement. Dale had a great love for the outdoors, and his children have many wonderful memories of trips with their father. His smile and generosity will not be forgotten. Family will receive friends Thursday, December 16, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11512 Memorial Drive. Memorial service, Friday, December 17 at 11:00 a.m., Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Hospital Presbiteriano de Mainero, P.O.
