Obituary for Dahl

Donald D. Dahl, 79, passed away on October 15, 1999. He was born March 25, 1920 in Savage, Montana and grew up in Rhame, ND. Don was a dedicated newspaperman. He received his journalism degree from the University of North Dakota in 1941, where he remained active as a loyal alumnus and member of Beta Theta Pi. After serving in the Navy as a harbor defense officer in New Guinea and the Philippines during WWII, Donald obtained his Master's degree from the Columbia School of Journalism, NY, NY in 1950. He worked for newspapers in ND, NH, and RI and was correspondent to the United Press in Manila, Philippines. After 28 years with the Albuquerque Tribune, Don retired as news editor in 1982. Donald is survived by his former wife, Helen Dahl of Moriarty; two daughters, Christine Dahl and partner, Gerri Barnhart of Albuquerque and Karen McKenzie and husband, Kenneth of Palma Ranch, NM; cherished grandchildren, Travis, Scarlett, Malcolm, Madeline, and Colin McKenzie; sister, Mrs. Chuck (Kay) Callantine of Belgrade, MT; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral and burial services were held in Bozeman, MT with arrangements by French Mortuary and Dahl Funeral Chapels. A celebration of Don's life will be held Sunday, November 14, 1999, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Albuquerque Press Club, 201 Highland Park Cir. SE (from Central Ave., south on Elm St., follow road up into Highland Park). Memorial contributions may be made to the UND Alumni Foundation, Box 8157, Grand Forks, ND 58202.
