Obituary for Whitman

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Tuesday October 19, 1999

Mildred French"Milly" Whitman, 60, a resident of Albuquerque since 1973, passed away Sunday, October 17, 1999. She is survived by and will be greatly missed by her husband of 31 years, Walter E. Whitman of Cedar Crest; daughter, Melinda A. Whitman of Cedar Crest; and twin sister, Linda F. Cuccia of Dallas, TX. Mrs. Whitman is preceded in death by her parents, Roland Woodward French and Mildred Dyson French. Milly was a beloved twin sister, wife, and mother. She loved good coffee, painting beautiful florals and gardening. From her southern vocabulary, she has taught us valuable words such as:"chit-chat","nippy-nap","doodlebug", and"fudge-tudge." Her love was unconditional and everyone in her home received love equally be it cat, dog, parakeet, or person. No one was ever left out. Milly was an accomplished artist and an avid gardener. She took great pride in transforming her East Mountain landscape into a lovely and prolific collection of flowers. Gaining inspiration from this beautiful environment, she also achieved great success in creating stunning landscapes on canvas. Drawing from her success in creating beautiful gardens, she spearheaded an ongoing program to beautify the Open Space in her neighborhood. For this significant achievement, she was honored as Outstanding Person of the Year in 1996 and further honored when the neighborhood renamed the Open Space as"Milly's Meadow." Her family and friends will deeply miss her friendship and love. She has found peace now and that is what is important to us. Services will be held Wednesday, October 20, 1999, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. Interment will take place at 12:30 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
