Obituary for Merbler

Leo Merbler passed away Tuesday, October 12, 1999. He was born March 6, 1925 in Clifton, NJ. Mr. Merbler served in the Army during WWII, where he was stationed in Hawaii and served in Okinawa. Mr. and Mrs. Merbler moved to Albuquerque from Albany, NY in 1950, and were well known for many years as the owners and operators of Crown T.V. He was a pioneer in the field of electronics, and was the first person in the state of New Mexico to repair color TV. He also taught TV repair at vocational schools. He traveled around the state to repair electronic equipment, including for the Weather Service and the repeater station at Mount Taylor. After retirement, he and his wife, Alice, traveled extensively, visiting every state in the United States, except Alaska, and spent their winters at Lake Havasu City, AZ. In addition to his beloved wife, Alice Merbler of the family home, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Tom Hatfield of Portland, OR; son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Roni Merbler of Albuquerque; step-son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Sue Nichols of Grand Rapids, MN; step-daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Chuck Nelson of Tijeras; and daughter-in-law, Lisa Nichols of Madison, WS. Also surviving are ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers; one sister; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services are pending. In lieu flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Sunrise Society is serving the family of Mr. Merbler, (891-8200).
