Obituary for Lucero

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Tuesday November 23, 1999

On Sunday, November 21, 1999, a very kind and quiet man, Procopio"Pete" Lucero was called home by our Lord. Pete left this world in the arms of his wife, Fannie N. Lucero, to go see his mom and dad, who, in his own quiet way, always thought of them. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andres and Margarita Lucero; brothers, Andres Lucero Jr. and wife, Ida, Frank B. Lucero and Guadalupe Lucero; grandsons, George Anthony Newman and Sammy B. Newman. Pete leaves behind his wife and friend, Fannie N. Lucero; step-son, George Lee Newman and wife, Rose C. Newman, who he raised as his own son and taught him to put a clean, white handkerchief in his pocket every day, taught him to put a shine on his shoes, and to iron his shirts with a military crease. Pete also leaves behind a beloved niece, Margaret and husband, Ray Gomez, who he loved so much because they came and told him jokes and sang songs; a nephew, Leo Lucero, who visited him every day at Paloma Blanca; and his little friend next door, Philipeto Spencer and his beloved puppy,"Coyote". Mr. Lucero was life member of the American Legion Post 69. Funeral services for Mr. Lucero will be held Wednesday at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, where the Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Military Honors will be performed by the DAV Chapter 3 and the American Legion Post 69 with Joe Montoya. Pallbearers will be Ray Gomez, Richard Gomez, and George Lucero. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the DAV Chapter 3 and American Legion Post 69. Visitation for Mr. Lucero will be held on Tuesday, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., in the mortuary chapel. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday evening, 7:00 p.m., at the Salazar & Sons Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements by the Salazar & Sons Mortuary, 400 Third St. SW.
