Obituary for Jones

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday November 19, 1999

Marianne Claycomb Jones, born October 12, 1920, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, died peacefully on November 15, 1999, at her home in Albuquerque. She was married to Byron Jones from 1940 to 1963 and raised four children to Chickasha, Oklahoma. During those years she and her family spent many happy summers in the Jemez Mountains of New Mexico, where they owned and operated a wilderness guest ranch for children and adults. After having been a military wife early in her marriage, and a homemaker until her children were grown, she returned to school and received a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Oklahoma. She spent the next several years working as a social worker in Chickasha, Norman and Sayre, Oklahoma before moving to Albuquerque to be near her children. She quickly resumed her career as a psychiatric social worker at the Veteran's Hospital in Albuquerque, where she worked with patients and eventually developed an extremely efficient and innovative intake program, which she headed until her retirement. She is survived by her four children, Byron Jones, Marianne Jones Jr., Lucy Kyle and Chris Hepler, who all still live and work in Albuquerque. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Andrew Kyle of Albuquerque, and Daniel and Lori Jones of San Antonio, TX. Cremation has taken place and disposition of her ashes will be by her children in keeping with her wishes. After many years of loving and caring for animals and supporting various animal care facilities and organizations, Marianne's wish for those who would like to do something in remembrance of her, is that contributions be sent to any such organization or facility in her name.
